Artist Statement
The camera is both my tool and anchor, allowing me to inhabit complex and painful spaces with tenderness and without judgment. It enables me to explore violence, difference, and pain while creating moments of quiet and new possibilities for being. Through my work, I seek a sense of home and safety in fractured realities. Born and raised in Jerusalem, I grew up in an ultra-Orthodox, anti-Zionist community to a Moroccan father and Iranian mother. As an artist, my practice is rooted in my identity—formerly religious, a Jew of Arab descent, and a woman in a male-dominated, violent world. My work engages with trauma from all sides, often in the margins of society, physically and ideologically.I use the camera to capture fleeting moments of tenderness amidst brutality, creating a fragile illusion of safety in an ongoing violent reality. My process is long-term, building relationships over the years, with a focus on portraiture and landscapes in conflict zones. Using analog photography, I print everything myself in the Dark-room making Large and small formats, guided by the format of a book—bridging seemingly disparate "enemies" into a narrative of continuity and belonging. My exhibitions, raw and unpolished, create a direct confrontation between the work and the viewer.

Déclaration de l'artiste
L’appareil photo est à la fois mon outil et mon ancrage, me permettant d’habiter des espaces complexes et douloureux avec tendresse et sans jugement. Il me permet d’explorer la violence, la différence et la douleur tout en créant des moments de calme et de nouvelles possibilités d’être. À travers mon travail, je cherche un sentiment de foyer et de sécurité dans des réalités fracturées. Né et grandi à Jérusalem, j’ai grandi dans une communauté ultra-orthodoxe et anti-sioniste, avec un père marocain et une mère iranienne. En tant qu’artiste, ma pratique est enracinée dans mon identité — anciennement religieuse, une juive d’origine arabe et une femme dans un monde dominé par les hommes et la violence. Mon travail engage le traumatisme sous toutes ses formes, souvent en marge de la société, tant physiquement qu'idéologiquement. J’utilise l’appareil photo pour capturer des moments fugaces de tendresse au milieu de la brutalité, créant une illusion fragile de sécurité dans une réalité violente et continue. Mon processus est à long terme, construisant des relations au fil des années, avec un accent particulier sur le portrait et les paysages dans les zones de conflit. Utilisant la photographie analogique, je développe toutes mes impressions moi-même, guidée par le format d’un livre — rapprochant des « ennemis » apparemment disparates dans une narration de continuité et d'appartenance. Mes expositions, brutes et non-polies, créent une confrontation directe entre le travail et le spectateur.
